Lanzarote

It’s all in the details – Lanzarote the most picturesque place I’ve ever been, the beautiful weather is a bonus. It’s the perfect place to go on holiday regarding weather, the cool breeze avoids that sticky hot feeling not to mention it only rains heavily 2/3 times a year, what a bonus! We stayed in a town named Playa Blanca, perfect for a quite getaway.

Travel

In September of 2019 we travelled to Lanzarote for a week. It’s a long but manageable flight of 4 hours but let me tell you its worth it. We booked the holiday through “Love Holidays” we originally priced the same dates with a travel agent but were quoted double what we paid in the end using “Love Holidays”. For €460 each we got our accommodation, flights, 20kg bag to share and our transfers, very reasonable in my opinion. The town we stayed in was very quiet regarding nightlife. If your looking for good nightlife “Puerto Del Carmen” is the place to be. Not to worry you can travel from both towns for €2.50 on the public bus routes.

Hotel

We stayed in “Playa Limones”, the accommodation consisted of bungalows with a private back entrance and patio, it was very private, clean and comfortable. The accommodation was within walking distance of the centre of town, a small water park was 500 meters away and the beach front was directly across from the entrance.

Food

Food, drink and all-round confectionary was very inexpensive. There is no shortage of eateries on the island, the whole beach front is full of restaurants, all of which were delicious. I would highly recommend “The Anvil” for an Irish Breakfast, tastes just like home! If you are visiting Puerto Del Carmen you must try a meal in “Finnegan’s Wake”, the food was out of this world, my top pick had to be the Finnegan burger.

Favourite Activities

Top of the list has to be go karting. For €50 you get three rounds on an outdoor track on karts that can travel to a maximum of 70kph. Each round lasts eight minutes. It a great group activity and a bit of dutch courage definitely unveils everybody’s competitive side. The dune buggies were a once in a lifetime experience, not for the faint at heart. I underestimated how difficult they would be to drive, especially when the gears are on the opposite side, I found myself reaching out the wrong way when changing gears. The trail consisted of half on road driving and half off road – make sure to bring sunglasses, you will be covered from head to toe in sand.

An activity for all ages would be a visit to Rancho Texas, a zoo with dolphin, eagle and sealion shows. If visiting bring swimwear there’s also a large pool and two water slides on site. If your looking for something different to do, I would suggest taking the ferry to Fuerteventura for the day. Spend the day exploring a new town, when we went, we spent most of the day at the waterpark, which in my opinion was much better than the larger one in Lanzarote that I visited a year previous.

Top tip when visiting Lanzarote – bring comfortable footwear!

On to the next adventure,

Kelsey.
